Terex Cranes has upgraded its Demag AC500-8 all-terrain crane to enhance the machine’s technical characteristics, including the addition of the Terex’s IC-1 Plus capacity calculating control system.
The IC-1 Plus control system is designed to maximise the allowable lifting capacity by performing instantaneous capacity calculations based on the slewing angle and the outrigger configuration.
This removes the maximum lifting capacity limits associated with a conventional pre-calculated 360° load chart based on the most unstable position of the crane, and is particularly useful when working with reduced outrigger settings or reduced counterweight.
This both creates the opportunity to use less counterweight compared to the 360° lifting capacities and enables the Demag AC500-8 to perform jobs where higher capacity cranes are typically needed.
At the same time, the AC500-8 continues to impress with its established advantages: with a carrier length of only 17.1m, it is still the most compact eight-axle machine in its class to achieve a maximum system length of 145.8m with a luffing fly jib.
The crane offers enormous power across the full lifting capacity range, and now features an improved main boom cross-section design and a reinforced sideways superlift structure.
The star shaped outrigger design also provides the required strength needed for minimal carrier deflection during maximum capacity lifts.
The crane has short setup times, comfortable working conditions, and a carefully thought-out drive design for efficient power transfer and excellent performance on both the highway and the jobsite.
The latest version of the AC500-8 is also designed to comply with Tier 4 emission standards in the US, but will be made available in the Middle East and other developing markets with appropriate engine versions.
